President’s day success for Joyce

Last Saturday one of the highlights of the Lancashire Ladies bowling year took place on Saturday. A report by Lancashire Ladies Secretary, Sue Ainscough, was published on their Facebook page and it has been reproduced here with permission. The event was held at the Hare Hill Park Bowling Club in Littleborough, Rochdale.

Runner-up Avril Dewhurst, President Elaine Ginnever, Winner Joyce Jones

Yesterday Elaine Ginnever hosted the 2017 presidents day at Harehilll B.C.

Although on arrival the weather didn’t look promising and we where met with one green that was flooded and unplayable, games proceeded at 10.15 as the rain ceased over Littleborough.

Through out the day we where witness to some fantastic games and a show of great gamesmanship.

As the semi final games where on the green the rain began to fall once more but the players where not deterred and the standard of play continued at a fantastic level.

As with all of these events there has to be an eventual winner and yesterday it was Joyce Jones of Rochdale that came out on top beating fellow team mate Avril Dewhurst 21-11 in the final.

Barbara Dootson (Consolation winner), Elaine Ginnever (President), Chris McManus (Consolation runner-up)

Mean while the members of Harehill had managed to get the water off the other green which allowed us to have a consolation competition.

It was Barbara Dootson of Manchester that came out victorious over Chris Mcmanus of Southport.

I would just like once again to thank Harehill B.C for their hospitality on the day and also a massive congratulations to Elaine on her presidential role.

Kath Dagger (Treasurer), Maureen Stephenson (Committee member), Suzanne Jankowski (Inter-town Fixture Secretary), Sue Ainscough (Ladies County Secretary), Mavis Hancock (Inter-town Secretary)

At the presentation Elaine Ginnever paid tribute to the work done by the committee for organising and running the event and the season’s competition.

The next event in the Lancashire Ladies calendar is the qualifier for the Dorothy Pierce Pairs which is to be held this Saturday at Ighten Mount Bowling Club in Burnley.
