FLOWFIT British Senior Merit now on BT Sport

It came as a bit of a surprise that the first of the broadcasts of the BCGBA FLOWFIT British Senior Merit slipped quietly onto the BT Sport channels last week.

The broadcasts were listed for showing this autumn and to see them broadcast so early, unless of course the end of the summer also went with the end of August, came a something of a surprise to say the least. Hopefully the future programmes will attract a big audience and the BT Sport executives will see crown green bowls as a sport to invest in.

Matt Gilmore - BCGBA FLOWFIT British Senior Champion for 2016
Matt Gilmore – BCGBA FLOWFIT British Senior Champion for 2016

From sports bars of Vilamoura in Portugal, where I was enjoying a splendid holiday, and the rest of the world to the comfy settees in your own very home, and including the various ways of watching on mobile devices, you can sit back and watch one of the best days in the bowls calendar.

The competition was won by Merseyside’s Matt Gilmore who claimed the title on these famous bowling greens in North Wales. Matt was also winner when the competition was last held in Wales and indeed at the same splendid venue.

It would be very wrong not to mention that the production of these programmes would not have been possible without the fantastic support of FLOWFIT, industry leaders in the supply of Hydraulic Components, and the British Crown Green Bowling Association.

In particular Simon Parsonage, of FLOWFIT, and the many BCGBA Officers led by CEO John Crowther and President Peter Higham. Also to thank of course are WCGBA led by Matt Foster and the Officials and Trustees of Llay Miners Welfare Club.

The games filmed during the day were:

First round – Greg Smith v Zach Walker
Second round – Wayne Dews v Nick Jones
Third round (1) – Damian Morrison v Paul Dudley
Third round (2) – Greg Smith v Phil Holdroyd
Qtr final – Andy Moss v Leigh Burdett
Semi-final – Greg Smith v Matt Gilmore
Final – Matt Gilmore v Andy Moss
