Kerry claims the double

Kerry Morris claimed the Athena Beach Hotel Open Singles with a dominant performance on the Athena Beach Hotel greens in Cyprus. Kerry added the Open Singles to the Zenon Transfer Mens Singles he won the day before to make it a very successful week for the popular Potteries county player. Kerry was in commanding form all day as he saw off a high quality field. Particularly impressive was his semi-final win over Martin Gilpin.

In a fitting conclusion to the 2nd running of the Cyprus Bowling Festival, Kerry and Ian Nicholson produced a high quality final. A feature of this week’s bowling was the use of marks along the edge of the greens and this was apparent in the final. Both Kerry and Ian used the ‘edge’ marks throughout the day, with the green producing tricky shallow round peg marks on each edge. it was Kerry’s use of the marks across the ‘crown’ of the green that proved decisive.

Played once again in glorious weather the finals day produced some excellent bowling. The game of the day was probably the quarter final game between Rob Fitzpatrick and Tracey Wraight. Rob went well clear and the result looked inevitable. However that was before Tracey settled on a long corner mark and produced a remarkable fight back to leave last years champion stunned.Tracey so nearly succeeded in the semi-final against Ian Nicholson.

The finals day was a fitting end to an excellent weeks bowling at this lovely bowls complex. With the festival confirmed for the next season, and the increase in numbers for this year and also expected for next year, this is proving to be a very popular early season competition.
