This competition was held as an open draw so the pairings were not known before the previous evening. In glorious weather the event provided both players and spectators with an enthralling day. The morning was taken with the qualifying round robin group stages and Joan Jolly and Marjorie Beaumont set the standard with a dominant unbeaten display in their group.

Martin Gilpin & Tom Holt edged their way through a tough group with 2 wins by the closest of possible margins over Ian Nicholson and Sheila Wignall in what proved to be the closest group.

The final was a close tense game as Joan Asquith and Kerry Morris proved to be fantastic opponents. The game could easily have gone against Paul and Ken but in the end they proved to be worthy champions.
