

The first title won at the Cyprus Festival was the Royal Artemis Medical Centre Open Doubles and Ken Powrie and Paul Dennison proved to be worthy champions. In a close final they triumphed over Joan Asquith and Kerry Morris at the wonderful Athena Beach Hotel bowling greens in Paphos, Cyprus.
This competition was sponsored by the Royal Artemis Medical Centre specialists in providing haemodialysis to patients holidaying in Cyprus. The Royal Artemis Hospital has been providing first class private medical and surgical care in Paphos, Cyprus to both locals and visitors for more than 25 years.

This competition was held as an open draw so the pairings were not known before the previous evening. In glorious weather the event provided both players and spectators with an enthralling day. The morning was taken with the qualifying round robin group stages and Joan Jolly and Marjorie Beaumont set the standard with a dominant unbeaten display in their group.
Martin Gilpin & Tom Holt edged their way through a tough group with 2 wins by the closest of possible margins over Ian Nicholson and Sheila Wignall in what proved to be the closest group.

After a brief lunch break, to refresh the qualifiers, the afternoon’s bowling was excellent with the event being live streamed via the Live Bowls YouTube channel (link below).
The final was a close tense game as Joan Asquith and Kerry Morris proved to be fantastic opponents. The game could easily have gone against Paul and Ken but in the end they proved to be worthy champions.
